A Great Day to Remember Forever

Every day on the ranch is a good day, but some are great days that I don’t think I will ever forget. On these great days, the morning starts out right, and then the whole workday evolves into one fantastic moment at the end of it—or in the middle; it doesn’t matter where the big moment is. The weeks after one of these special days, I get to keep on working like normal, but it seems like everything I do reminds me of that one great memory. That’s how I know it will last forever.

These days are rare enough to make them a big deal, but not so rare that I would call them uncommon. They happen about quarterly. (Side note) The fact that a big memory and a great day happen that often makes me pretty confident about the lifestyle we are living. I hope others get to experience the same sort of thing just as often or even more often, but a core memory on a quarterly basis? That’s pretty legit.

So, about this big day—it probably isn't near as exciting as you expect it will be. It started out great. It was a Saturday, which usually means that my brother was at the ranch all day. He’s good company. He and I fed, tightened up some hay tarps, and did the normal type of productive work. The day was full of our brotherly banter, which normally consists of some jokes, talking about cows/infrastructure on the ranch, as well as the stock market since we are both have fun in the market. Then the day shifted, and evening feeding started. Instead of dividing up like normal and feeding different groups of animals individually to increase productivity, the two of us stuck together. We stuck together since I was explaining to Richard how Klarna has been increasing its yearly revenue steadily and will likely go public soon. We wanted to keep the conversation going, so we decided to feed together. What a great move, because a very simple evening ended up being a great memory of chatting, finished off by one of the top 10 sunsets I have ever seen on the ranch. It was so good we sat there for 10 minutes giving it time to get even better. We got a few photos, then in typical style, left right before it got AMAZING, which meant we had to speed-feed so we could run back up on the hill to see it again! What a fun, chaotic, but impactful evening—a super simple memory that I will never forget. Days and memories like these remind me that a fantastic moment does not need to be out of the ordinary, it can simply be doing the normal everyday chores on the ranch with good company, topped of with a great sunset.
